Check my latest monthly playlist for more. There’s lots of new music to catch up on, so this week I’m doing one-line reviews. (I’m also trying smart links so you can listen on whichever service you prefer — do you like it?)
Chloe Foy - Complete Fool (Album)
A proficient and polished collection of honest, unfiltered songs; exploring broad territory with captivating sparkle. (Listen here)
Dom Malin - bloodmoon
A hauntingly comforting slow-burning song which evokes deep nostalgia. (Listen here)
Eden J Howells - living lonely
Dark, quietly tormented, emo-soaked alt-rock; this speaks directly from one soul to another. (Listen here)
Innocent - Coming Back To Me
A song which seems to float beyond the ethereal and yet remains grounded and focusing with almost painfully accuracy on the realities of our human emotions. (Listen here)
Marthe Halvorsen - The Willow Tree
Gentleness and power paradoxically combined in a beautiful ode to creating wise space to breathe. (Listen here)
renforshort - a girl’s experience (EP)
Nine minutes of captivating, punchy, hopeful but heart-searching pop. (Listen here)
Watch this (x3)
The phrase ‘I’M FINE!’ leaves plenty of room for interpretation, and dodie’s video matches her song’s engaging, shifting diversity really well. It’s beautiful on many levels.
With a video from their debut EP ‘Return The Day’, Dog Race prove their irresistible ability to be subtly unsettling. This won’t be everyone. The first time I heard this band (live), I wasn’t sure it was for me. But they’ve grown on me and I find myself drawn in.
EEVAH have captured a comforting wistfulness here, accompanying ‘I Didn’t See It Coming’ with their interpretation of the tried-and-tested “walking slowly through a landscape” music video genre. It allows the song to breathe.

My most recent post was a long-read interview with Seth from Leeds-collective Fold. What better time to hear about their bold but pragmatic way to respond to the madness we’re seeing in so many parts of the world. There’s a lot to explore — it’s really worth setting aside a few minutes to read:
Turning the tables: Fold in conversation [Interview]
“How do we really resist? Not just complain or react, but push back in a way that makes a difference.”
Don’t miss this week (and next)
As always, check the Release Tracker and be sure not to miss
a handful of mid-week releases from the mighty Alexandra Leaving (‘The Wall’), Fuzz Lightyear (‘Berlin, 1885’) and Nyah Grace (an album named ‘Divinely Devoted’); and
Thursday drops from ERNIE (‘Summer Sun’) and Robin Kester (‘An Hour Per Day’).
